A Study on the Quality of Life depending on the Degree of Visual Impairment ? With Activities of Daily Living and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living ?

Abstract
Purpose: Through the evaluation of the quality of life depending on the degree of visual impairment, we will sympathize with the discomfort of the visually handicapped, recognize the welfare service needed for improvement, and use it as basic materials for the study of the visually handicapped.

Methods: The analysis regards to survey questions of basic Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) of Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA)'s status data of disabled people investigated in 2011, and utilizing SPSS win 12.0, technical statistics was conducted through cross analysis.

Results: The factors with the highest total independence for daily life achievement abilities were changing posture 98.7%, controlling feces 98.4%, and brushing tooth 97.8%. The daily life achievement abilities that require partial and whole support were walking 11.7%, eating 9.6% and dressing 8.5%. The factors with the highest rate of total independence among instrumental daily life achievement ability were taking medicine 89.5%, using telephone 84.1%, and laundry 83.12% and the instrumental daily life achievement abilities which require partial and whole support were using the public transport 23.0%, preparing meals 21.0% and shopping 20.4%.

Conclusions: Guarantee of transfer rights which is an important ability of achievement for participating in various social activities is the most pressing procedure, especially support for people with severe visual impairment and mild impairment should be customized according to the level of their independence, a basic research on the registration rate of the visually impaired people should be carried out and the development of the system for each level should be actualized.
